Thursday, May 10, 2012

50mm Metallic or Galvanized Lucite Flower from Vintage stock

Today's feature is Galvanized Lucite in all it's glory. Shining. Made to match the current hottest effects of real metal with none of the weight. You can make one of those extremely popular GI-GAN-TOR pieces of jewelry and not feel like a YOKE is tied around your neck!
VINTAGE: Brite Silver leaves, perfect for layering

Some of our Galvanized pieces are VINTAGE and some is current production. Either way - Galvanized Lucite gives you MORE options when it comes to designing that one-of-a-kind piece of handmade jewelry. So what are you waiting for??
VINTAGE: 56mm Flower a.k.a. "The Twin Spiders"

The 15x15mm Heart shape D_L63 is one of the most popular selling leaves we have - we can't seem to keep them in stock. We carry it in Gold, Silver and Antiqued Gold, Silver & Copper. The Antiqued Copper matches perfect with metals like Vintaj and Nunn Designs.
We have also used the metal 15x15mm D_L63 heart/palm leaves in a flower design. But we've made rings out of the flower so you have the in fashion big style ring, no weight and can even add a Rivoli in the center to curb those crystal cravings. Find the kits, here.

The Mighty-est TINY-est Lucite of all . . .

Monday, April 23, 2012

Today we feature a piece of Lucite that is pound-for-pound stronger than any other Lucite we carry and even though it's only .10 per piece - it sells more in dollar value than ANY of our other Lucite - combined.

We'd like to introduce you to the D_F95. Coming in at 6mm wide in diameter and weighing less than 1 gram, it truly is the FEATHERWEIGHT of all Lucite. Our website says we have 21 colors in this style but I think it's more. . .some might not be listed.

We use this piece of Lucite extensively - in almost every single project we design. It's a bead cap. It's a flower center. It's graced three magazine covers!

It's a fringe topper, being so lightweight, the fringe doesn't even falter. It's a seed bead cup.

It's baby breath.

AND. . .

Hope you didn't think we were done.
It's all these things as well. .  .

Can you say VERSATILE?

It's an anchor for headpins, it's hole is so small that it fits perfectly on the end.

It's a crown for royalty and a halo for Angels.

And even though it's the smallest flower we carry - it's perfect all by itself.
So, if you agree with us - this little baby is absolutely essential to your Lucy collection, stop by the shop and find the F95 right here.

The Lucite Rosebush Leaf . . .

Monday, April 16, 2012

Today we're featuring the D_L60 which is 20x30mm and .80 each. The leaf is wafer thin but is almost indestructible. So it's an excellent choice for any design you want to incorporate into.
We added L60 to the bottom of the fringe on this Ornament because it has detail on both sides.
We particularly like the intricate detail on both sides, if it flips over it actually looks like the underside of any natural leaf.
If you use Scarlet L60's instead of Rose Pink, it looks like a Poinsetta
We have also used it in a ring design because it gives you that fashionable large area ring but NO weight.
We love using it in our earring designs because it has enough surface area to dangle things in front of but is lightweight enough to wear on your ears.

Our original ring design was this concept. Metal leaves, metal shank, bezeled Rivoli all sewn to Lacy's and glued to the upper portion of the shank. The result was a STUNNING piece of jewelry that appears soldered but it woven. However, the sheer weight makes it prohibitive to wear for long periods of time.

If you like what you see - you can find the D_L60 here.

Lucite Flower in 3 sizes. . .

Monday, April 9, 2012

Today we feature 3 flowers but one shape. The D_F17, D_F16 and D_F15 are all the same except for size. And we think they resemble a Hibiscus flower in all it's stages of glory.
Originally we were told that the D_VF17 was Vintage. We soon discovered (through research of our own), that it was not Vintage and was in-fact current production Lucite. So we had to change all the SKU numbers and remove it from the Vintage category, thank goodness we didn't try to charge VINTAGE prices for it!

Lucies' Daisy Patch
The D_F17 is a 30mm flower and is used in many of our designs but one you might recognize is Lucies' Daisy Patch. In LDP we actually used the flower as a unique clasp because of a magnet button-hole loop that sits directly under the flower - hidden from view -but the tension of the design causes the bracelet to not fall below your wrist. Therefore, the flower should always sit on top of your wrist, if made correct. Find the F17 here.

Lucies' Pearl Cuff uses our F16 and F33 flowers to top off the gorgeous glass pearls and create a center line for this bangle bracelet with another signature hidden clasp designed by Tarlee Scholl.
Lucies Pearl Cuff in Gold/Pinks
The D_F16 is 16mm in diameter and exactly the same flower as the F17 and F15, the only difference is that we currently only have the F16 as a reorderable stock item on our website - meaning current production. Stock in F17 and F15 is limited to stock on hand as of right now. The flowers are so exact that I am using the same photos' to show each example. Find the F16 here.
The D_F15 is 14mm and is currently not on the website. It is in Samplers and stranded Lucite we have for shows and trunk shows. It just so happens that this is one of Tarlee and I's favorite pieces of Lucite mostly for it's detail. It's perfect for earrings.

These are my Tarina Tarantino inspired Earrings.
The earrings above were inspired by Tarina Tarantino's Lucite design but I used my own "flair" - I turned metal bead caps upside down to create the flower center definition, added stick pearls, 10mm Swarovski rounds, Swarovski Marguerites, pearlized Lucite all wire-wrapped to big link chain. The earrings are so lively, jang-lee and vibrant! We love them.

Lucite Star -Daffodil - SPIKE Flower

Monday, April 2, 2012

Today's feature is D_F31 Star flower. I'm calling it a "star - Daffodil - SPIKE" flower because by itself it resembles a star, however, it's supposed to be paired with the D_F32 to assemble a Daffodil flower but customers always ask "Do you have that SPIKY flower?

If you didn't know already - all Lucite flowers are stack-able or able to be paired, stacked, set atop another to create another type of flower. So if you're ever stuck in a design and need a new flower - try stacking them!

Above are some pictures of examples we just took for the purpose of the blog showing an F32, F31 and F21 setting atop each other. (the crystal matte example is actually part of the rose). You may notice that contrasting colors actually show the depth of the pieces stacked while correlating colors seem to show the texture of the flower.

We've also added Lucite flowers into bouquets of woven flowers, made dragonfly wings and incorporated them into other areas of beadwork where they didn't appear to be a flower - see our Beaded Book - Flowers for Algernon piece we beaded for Interweave Press. A completely beaded front, back and center of a REAL book.

Of course all this depends on personal taste. We have seen so many examples of our Lucite used in ways we wouldn't have personally thought of doing and the beauty of others works always astounds us! It is a wonderful moment in beading to see that a product you sell, inspires others to create beautiful jewelry designs.

Featured Lucite - Trumpet Flower Pendant

Monday, March 26, 2012

Georgia O' Keeffe painting resembles our Trumpet flower pendant

Today's featured Lucite is the D_F07 Drop - Trumpet Flower. We say Trumpet because it's the closest we found to being this flower pendant. We actually had to search Google for a flower that resembled it and ask on Facebook. But we feel Georgia O' Keeffe's painting was spot on to this little pendant. Maybe the pendant was made after the painting?

Our D_F07 Pendant is 24x20 and .70 each
Our website says this pendant comes in 23 colors and at .70 each - it's a super affordable way to make a statement as a focal for your necklace but small enough to wear as earrings because it has a Top Drilled Horizontal hole.

You can also add Crystal Clay to the center indention to add some bling to this piece and then color it to highlight the features with Gilder's Paste. With these simple steps you can create a one-of-a-kind pendant for less than $1.00 and Gilder's Paste sticks to and stays on Lucite - forever!
Watermelon is just one of 23 colors in this delicious pendant/focal

Lucite Samplers - The Best of the best...

Monday, March 19, 2012

So this is Christmas - Limited Edition Red/Green and White Sampler

We've been creating and selling Lucite Samplers for 9 years now. I would have to say that we've become pro's at creating new color mixes, almost at a rate of 2 per year. We now have over 60 samplers ranging from $16.00 to $22.00 which contain a small sampling of the best of our Lucite, the most popular sellers in their categories and ranging from 45 to 60 pieces. We've got the science down so well now that you'll probably get the exact same color of a style if you want the Sampler - a couple of months later (unless we're out of stock on that style/color)
Black and White Sampler Mix $21.00
We developed Samplers to take the guess work out of ordering off the web. Some of our clients just want to order a small amount of product without searching through the pages and pages of styles and color ranges we have...and other clients just want simplicity - whatever your reason, we have kept you in mind when making these super sellers!
Our version of the French Family's favorite colors
Whether you like purple or just leaves or only flowers or Jet or want to make a wedding ensemble for a bride all in white. We've got a Sampler to fit your budget and design idea.

Samplers are a perfect way to make one of our first published designs - Lucies' Garden. We have based all our Lucite projects after the first one and try (I say try because although we try - it doesn't always work out for us) to name any of The Hole Bead Shoppe's published Lucite projects "Lucies'
The Chintz version of Lucie's Garden is made from the Marie Antoinette Sampler!
We have Lucies' Day in the Sun, Lucies' Daisy Patch, Lucies' First Christmas, Lucies' Branching Out, Lucy You're so Charming and Lucies' Pearl Cuff thus far, with more planned.
Lucies' Day in the Sun featured in Beadwork!
So if you're looking for an easy design solution and don't have time to search for all the styles and colors we have - stop by the Sampler Shop. We'd love to ship you a few and it's a great way to start your collection of Lucite without "bustin' yo' beady bank".

Do you LOVE our Samplers? Tell us why! Haven't seen them - see our selection here. Are you wholesale - we launched our WHOLESALE SAMPLERS in 2010. Contact us here for information and a link -WHOLESALE SAMPLERS

Lucite Leaf -L02

D_L02 Leaf 22x13mm in 20 beautiful colors

Todays' feature is the 22x13mm D_L02 leaf. We've been told it resembles a feather and it has lines on one side only. It has an "ovate or elliptical" shape and really doesn't resemble any tree leaf I am aware of at this point? Our website states we have 20 colors in this style and you can find it here.

One of our first versions of Lucies' Garden bracelet using D_L02
We especially love the D_L02 because if you string it one way - it points that direction, but if you string it another way - it points the opposite direction, which leads to a very striking, symmetrical display.

We've also been featured in several magazines using Lucite flowers and leaves as the main component for our design. Many of our designs feature artisan lampwork beads - which we use as inspiration for our project. The Sageberry Rose and Lei project were inspired by lampwork from "Grace Ma" designs and another lampwork artist we use all the time is "Palmtree Queen", we highly recommend either of these lampworkers for their consistency, reliability and ability to reproduce beads which is important when you need to make kits.
