Day of the Dead Challenge Entries

Sunday, December 18, 2011

I won't be linking away from our blog or posting another blog until January 10th, 2012 to allow all of these entries to get the most comments (which are VOTES) as they can, so please leave a comment below for your FAVORITE design.

We've had a great year. I hope 2012 is better...of course I always hope for progress but it would be really nice to move forward in leaps and bounds instead of the snails pace I've endured in the past 7 years. I often imagine myself in one of those time lapsed filmography's - I am standing still and everyone else rushes past me? Do you feel that way as well?

We sold 10 challenge kits and have 8 wonderful entries. The Challenge was to use 75% of the kit contents (pic below) in their designs. They must use 75% to get scored in five categories: Theme, Creativity, Functionality, Creative use of techniques and BONUS of 5 extra points for using ALL or MOST of the Lucite sent to them.

Here they are - our Day of the Dead entries, one by one.

# 1 Stephanie Haussler - Garden of Skulls

#2 Shelley Nybakke - Pleines - Hangmans' Noose
#3 Jennifer VanBenSchoten - Garden of the Dead

#4 Katie Nelson - Muerta Hermosa

#5 Beth Dewey - Remembrance

#6 Diana Palmer -  Never forget Katrina

#7 Wendy Baker - Twenty flowers for Catrina

#8 Susan Jaisle - Sugar Shack
Good Luck to all our beautiful entries! Leave a comment with your favorite design - we'll be tallying all the Facebook votes for these designs with the comments left here.

I love the richness of #7 Wendy Baker's Twenty Flowers, very full of color and clusters of flowers like a tropical memorial arrangement for Day of Dead.

My favorite: #7 Wendy Baker If you have seen the cemetaries in Mexico during Day of the Dead, they are awash with color from flowers and just beautiful. The designs are all so creative, this one just seemed to say "Day of the Dead" to me.

These are ALL truly wonderful. I have been studying them all for 30 minutes. I think I will have to go with which one would I wear. That would be Number 6. Six!

I like 20 flowers for Katrina as it mimics the bead embroidery necklaces I'm so fond of.

Number 1 is my favorite! While they are all very colorful and pretty. I feel like hers could be worn the most often. She followed the theme but its not so over the top it is unwearable.
